A comprehensive study by Drive Research has uncovered significant consumer interest in integrated in-car payment systems, revealing that drivers in the United States and Germany are not only eager for such technology but would willingly pay a premium for a seamless digital experience.

The 2025 In-Car Payments User Experience Report found that 100% of US drivers and 93% of German motorists believe an easy-to-use in-car payment system would enhance their driving experience. Remarkably, 70% of US motorists and 67% of German drivers expressed willingness to pay more upfront for vehicles with integrated payment functionality.

The research compared two in-car payment systems, demonstrating that user experience dramatically impacts consumer perception. An updated system developed by Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility significantly outperformed current market offerings, with over 90% of US drivers extremely likely to use the optimized platform compared to just 20% for existing implementations.

Key findings indicate that drivers want comprehensive payment services for driving-related transactions, including parking, electric vehicle charging, fueling, and toll payments. Notably, 97% of participants in both markets would consider using such services if the system were user-friendly.

The study also highlighted that the quality of in-car payment systems could substantially influence brand perception. An impressive 87% of US drivers reported that intelligent payment integration would increase their likelihood of purchasing from the same automotive brand in the future.

Challenges remain in system implementation, with drivers emphasizing the importance of a simple enrollment process. Approximately 77% of German drivers and 70% of US participants stated that a complicated registration would discourage their participation.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, particularly with the global shift towards electric vehicles, these findings underscore the growing importance of sophisticated, integrated digital services in modern vehicles.
