Exner Turbidity and Solids Sensors Achieve 3A and EHEDG Hygienic Certifications

South Fork Instruments has announced that its Exner turbidity and solids concentration sensors have received certifications from both 3A Sanitary Standards and the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG). These certifications underscore the sensors' adherence to rigorous hygienic design standards, crucial for food and beverage processing applications where product safety and accurate measurement data are paramount.

The dual certifications respond to the increasing need for process monitoring instruments that can endure aggressive Clean-in-Place (CIP) cycles while minimizing contamination risks. Breweries and other food and beverage manufacturers, in particular, will benefit from sensors designed to meet these high standards. John Daly, Technical Director at South Fork Instruments, highlighted the significance of these certifications, stating they affirm the Exner sensors' compliance with top hygienic design criteria, enabling real-time process monitoring without sacrificing sanitary conditions.

Key features of the certified Exner sensors include electropolished 316L stainless steel construction with surface finishes below 0.8 μm Ra to prevent bacterial adhesion, complete drainability to avoid contamination points, a temperature range of 0-90°C suitable for both production and CIP operations, and resistance to standard cleaning and sanitizing chemicals. Additionally, the sensors come with factory calibration using solid-state reference standards.

These sensors find applications in various processes such as brewing wort clarification and filtration monitoring, dairy processing quality control, and pharmaceutical sterile manufacturing. The certifications allow manufacturers to integrate continuous turbidity monitoring into their operations without introducing contamination risks or violating HACCP protocols.
