Montana's Premier Skijoring Event Expands to Three Days with $15,000 Prize Purse

Big Sky, Montana's premier skijoring competition is set to return bigger than ever, as the Big Sky Skijoring Association announces its 7th Annual Best in the West Showdown scheduled for February 7-9, 2025. The event's expansion to three days and $15,000 prize purse signals the growing mainstream appeal of this distinctive winter sport.

Last year's event attracted over 150 teams and 4,000 spectators, demonstrating the increasing popularity of skijoring, which combines the traditional western sport of horseback riding with skiing or snowboarding. The 2025 competition will feature 154 teams competing across multiple divisions, from novice to professional levels.

The expansion represents a significant development for winter sports tourism in Montana and the broader skijoring community. The event's growth mirrors the increasing interest in alternative winter sports and could potentially boost local tourism and economic activity during the traditionally slower winter months.
