The Virginia Women in Wine Trail is highlighting the significant contributions of women in the state's wine industry during Women's History Month. The trail spans 50 wineries, cideries, and meaderies across eight regions, primarily featuring women-owned establishments or those employing women in key roles such as winemakers, vineyard staff, and tasting room educators.
Running from March 14-31, 2025, the trail offers visitors diverse experiences including Female Favorites Flights, wine dinners, vineyard tours, blending workshops, and behind-the-scenes discussions. These events aim to showcase the depth of female expertise in Virginia's wine production and create networking opportunities.
A culminating event, the VWW Trailblazer Bash on March 29 at Bluemont Vineyards, will present three Trailblazer Awards to recognize women who have significantly influenced Virginia's wine landscape. The event will also launch a critical report, 'Closing the Gender Gap in Winemaking,' which reveals that women currently represent only 17% of head winemaker positions in the state.
By creating this trail and promoting discussions about gender representation, Virginia Women in Wine seeks to strengthen the industry by highlighting women's leadership, creating networking platforms, and generating conversations about career advancement and operational improvements.
