The August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) will host its 15th Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival this September, showcasing an eclectic mix of jazz, neo soul, and world music performances. Co-presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the festival will feature prominent artists including Branford Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Jazzmeia Horn.
The majority of performances will be free and located on Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, with additional ticketed concerts at AWAACC. Festival organizers aim to preserve jazz history while introducing emerging talent, reflecting the event's commitment to musical diversity and cultural celebration.
Headliners represent a wide range of musical styles, from straight-ahead jazz to Caribbean and urban folk music. Notable performers include vocalists Keith David and Kandace Springs, alongside emerging artists like Michael Mayo and Ekep Nkwelle Howard. The festival will also feature unique performances such as an all-star tribute to George Benson and performances by groups like Be'La Dona and the Etienne Charles Creole Soul Ensemble.
A unique feature of this year's festival is The Jazz Train, a travel package offering round-trip train tickets from select East Coast cities, live music during transit, and festival access. The event underscores Pittsburgh's significant role in jazz culture and provides a platform for both established and emerging artists.
With support from sponsors including the Mellon Foundation, UPMC, and Carnegie Mellon University, the festival represents more than a musical event—it's a celebration of artistic diversity, cultural heritage, and community connection.
