The controversy centers on allegations that local oyster farmers and municipal staff manipulated aquaculture location selections, potentially violating transparency and governance standards. Residents have obtained evidence through Freedom of Information requests suggesting improprieties in the site selection process.
During a March 20, 2025 council session, frustrated constituents attempted to present concerns about conflicts of interest. However, the council reportedly refused to allow residents to speak before tabling a motion, instead inviting a Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture representative to provide rebuttals.
A significant point of contention involves Warden Albright, who was asked to recuse herself due to potential family conflicts of interest. She refused, declaring no conflict existed, further intensifying community frustration.
