Pampa Metals Discovers New Copper-Gold Porphyry System in Argentina
Summary
Full Article
Pampa Metals has identified a potentially significant new copper-gold porphyry system at its Piuquenes East project in Argentina, reporting substantial mineral intersections in its initial drilling campaign. The first drill hole, PIU-06, revealed a mineralized interval of 98 meters averaging 0.49% copper and 0.16 grams per tonne of gold.
The discovery is strategically located near other major porphyry copper projects in the San Juan Miocene porphyry belt, including El Pachón and Los Azules. What makes this finding particularly promising is the system's multi-phase character, which is reminiscent of world-class deposits in the region.
The newly discovered porphyry system is entirely open to the north, west, and east, with no previous drilling in these potential extension areas. Geological analysis indicates multiple alteration phases, including high-temperature potassic alteration overprinted by moderate-temperature chlorite-sericite and phyllic alterations, followed by advanced argillic alteration.
While initial results show sporadic mineralization, geologists note that many porphyry systems contain unmineralized breccias that can transition into highly mineralized zones. The discovery represents an early-stage exploration opportunity with significant potential for further development.
Pampa Metals plans to continue systematic exploration of the 2,500-hectare project area through additional geological mapping, geophysical studies, and targeted drilling to better understand the system's potential mineral resources.
