UGI Utilities Launches Major Gas Infrastructure Upgrade in Sunbury

UGI Utilities is preparing to implement comprehensive system upgrades in Sunbury, a project that will enhance infrastructure reliability and provide potential service expansion for local properties. The six-week infrastructure investment will involve replacing gas mains across multiple streets and locations, including critical areas near Veterans Memorial Bridge and Weis Market's Corporate Headquarters.

The project, scheduled from May 19 through the end of June, will require significant traffic management. Affected roadways include South 2nd Street, South Front Street, and Slough Street. Residents and commuters should anticipate road closures, detours, and potential traffic delays during construction hours of 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Beyond infrastructure improvement, the project presents a strategic opportunity for local homes and businesses to convert to natural gas service. The systematic replacement allows UGI to modernize underground utilities while simultaneously offering expanded energy options to property owners along the construction route.

Property owners can expect some temporary interruptions to natural gas service, with UGI technicians requiring property access to inspect and relight equipment. The utility warns that weather and working conditions might influence the projected completion timeline.
