UGI Utilities, Inc. announced that its purchased gas cost rates will remain unchanged on June 1, 2025, with a modest increase projected for December 1, 2025. The anticipated rate adjustment, subject to Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) review, represents a minimal impact on customer bills.
For a typical residential heating customer using 73.7 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of natural gas monthly, the bill would increase from $112.23 to $113.45, representing a 1.1% rise. Commercial customers can expect a 1.4% increase, with monthly bills moving from $333.24 to $337.83, while industrial customers may see a 1.5% uptick, with monthly bills rising from $840.06 to $852.29.
The proposed rate adjustments are part of UGI's annual filing process, which ensures transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements. By law, utilities like UGI cannot profit from the natural gas commodity portion of customer bills and must pass through wholesale pricing changes directly.
This approach allows for dynamic pricing that reflects current market conditions while maintaining strict oversight by the PUC. The minimal projected increase suggests relative stability in natural gas markets and provides customers with predictable energy costs.
