Rare 1939 Fiat Topolino Transformable Highlights Pre-War Italian Automotive Design at DFW Museum

A pristine 1939 Fiat 500 A Topolino Transformable has been added to the DFW Car & Toy Museum's extensive collection, providing automotive enthusiasts and history buffs a remarkable example of pre-war Italian engineering and design.

The vehicle, restored in Turin by craftsman Giorgio Castello, represents a significant piece of automotive history. Finished in classic beige with a black beltline and tan cloth interior, the Topolino features a retractable canvas soft top that embodies the era's innovative automotive styling.

Powered by a modest 569cc water-cooled four-cylinder engine producing 13 horsepower, the Topolino—meaning 'little mouse' in Italian—was designed as an affordable, stylish transportation solution for everyday Italians. Its inclusion in the museum collection provides visitors with an intimate look at early 20th-century European automotive innovation.

The car's historical significance is enhanced by accompanying original documentation, including a maintenance manual and a 1956 Italian registration booklet. These artifacts offer collectors and automotive historians valuable insights into the vehicle's provenance and maintenance history.

Museum founder Ron Sturgeon emphasized the Topolino's cultural importance, describing it as a symbol of pre-war resilience and Italian ingenuity. The vehicle joins over 200 other vehicles in the museum's collection, further expanding its representation of global automotive heritage.

Located in North Fort Worth, the museum offers visitors a comprehensive exploration of automotive history, with the Topolino serving as a prime example of classic European design and engineering.
