Antique toy collectors from across the United States converged on Fort Worth this week for their annual conference, with a highlight being a private tour of the DFW Car & Toy Museum. Industry experts were impressed by the scale and comprehensive nature of the museum's collection.
Dale Kelley, publisher of Antique Toy World magazine, described the museum as potentially the largest antique toy museum globally. The 150,000 sq. ft. facility showcases more than 3,000 vintage toys collected by museum founder Ron Sturgeon since 1985, alongside over 200 classic and exotic cars.
Jeanne Bertoia of Bertoia Auctions praised the museum's preservation efforts, noting its significance in maintaining toy history. The museum offers visitors an immersive experience, allowing them to reconnect with childhood memories through meticulously curated displays.
Beyond toys and cars, the museum features a gallery of coin-operated machines and nostalgic decor spanning multiple eras. Sturgeon emphasized the emotional connection visitors experience when encountering toys from different generations.
The museum provides free admission and is dog-friendly, making it an accessible destination for families and collectors alike. Located in North Fort Worth, it operates Tuesday through Saturday and encourages photography, offering a unique glimpse into automotive and toy collecting history.
