ProtoSpace Mfg continues its decade-long commitment to advancing space exploration technology by sponsoring the 2025 University Rover Challenge (URC). The competition, taking place May 29-31 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah, will feature 38 teams from 10 countries competing in rigorous Mars rover design challenges.
The manufacturing company is providing substantial support to participating teams, offering each a $2,000 USD credit for custom component fabrication and a 50% discount on additional manufactured parts. This initiative aims to bridge academic learning with practical engineering experience, giving students crucial insights into real-world technological development.
The URC challenges student teams to design rovers capable of performing complex missions simulating extraterrestrial exploration. Competitions include Science Cache, Equipment Servicing, Extreme Terrain Traversal, and Autonomous Navigation - each testing critical capabilities for potential future Mars missions.
ProtoSpace's long-standing involvement has proven transformative, with many past participants advancing to careers in aerospace and research institutions. By providing manufacturing resources and expertise, the company plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of space exploration innovators.
