UGI Utilities has announced the start of significant system upgrades in Hazleton, beginning June 16, as part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring safe and reliable service. This initiative not only aims to replace a natural gas main but also opens up opportunities for properties along the project route to convert to natural gas, a move that could lead to energy efficiency and cost savings for residents and businesses alike.
The construction, expected to conclude by the end of October, will primarily affect West Diamond Avenue between Linden Street and Church Street, and Hemlock Street between North James Street and Locust Street. Scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, the project may cause road closures, detours, and traffic delays, with parking restrictions on the impacted streets. Additionally, some interruptions to natural gas service are anticipated, necessitating UGI's access to properties for inspection and equipment relighting.
Weather and working conditions could influence the project's timeline, with final paving and restoration to follow the underground work. UGI encourages those interested in converting to natural gas to reach out, highlighting the potential benefits of such a transition. This upgrade underscores the importance of infrastructure modernization in supporting community growth and sustainability, offering a cleaner energy alternative while navigating the temporary inconveniences of construction.
