This move comes as the company seeks to capitalize on the basin's high magnesium concentrations, alongside its already recognized lithium resources. Covering 743 claims across 14,260 acres, ABM's mineral rights present a unique opportunity for the co-extraction of lithium and magnesium using advanced Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) techniques.
The inclusion of magnesium recovery aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Defense's recent classification of magnesium as a critical material. Essential for the defense, aerospace, and automotive industries, magnesium's role in electric vehicles, electronics, and biodegradable medical implants underscores the strategic importance of developing a domestic supply chain. ABM's DLE-based approach promises efficient recovery of both minerals with minimal environmental impact, utilizing a closed-loop system that returns the majority of extracted brine to its source, thereby reducing land usage and eliminating the need for traditional mining methods.
