American Heart Association Welcomes Dr. Jennifer Ashton and Dr. Joseph Woo to Board of Directors

The American Heart Association has announced the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Ashton and Dr. Joseph Woo to its Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Jennifer Ashton, a nationally recognized women’s health advocate and ABC News’ Chief Medical Correspondent, brings her expertise in obesity medicine and preventive health to the Association. Her extensive volunteer work with the American Heart Association and her advocacy for women’s cardiovascular health have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 Heart Saver Hero Award. Dr. Ashton expressed her honor in being the first OB-GYN appointed to the Board, highlighting her focus on addressing the obesity and maternal mortality epidemics in the U.S.

Dr. Joseph Woo, a distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon and professor at Stanford Medicine, is celebrated for his pioneering work in cardiac surgery innovation.
