Ontario's iGaming sector experienced a historic surge in May 2025, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching a new monthly record of CA$338.0 million, marking a 2.9% increase from the previous high and a 40.3% rise compared to May of the previous year. This growth was accompanied by total player wagering surpassing the CA$8 billion mark for the first time, reaching CA$8.07 billion, a 3.5% increase from April and a 28.9% jump year-on-year.
Online casinos dominated the market, generating CA$259.8 million in revenue, which accounted for 77% of all iGaming revenue in the province. Sports betting also showed strong performance, contributing CA$71.8 million, while online poker, though smaller, saw an 18.9% increase in revenue. Despite a slight decrease in active player accounts, the average revenue per active player account rose by 10.0%, indicating higher spending among engaged players.
With 50 licensed operators and 86 websites, Ontario's iGaming market is a competitive and thriving sector. This record-setting performance underscores the growing consumer demand for online gambling and the effectiveness of Ontario's regulated market in generating significant economic activity. As the province continues to manage its fiscal priorities, the iGaming sector stands out as a key contributor to its economic landscape.
