Orange County Celebrates 40 Years of Philanthropy with Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards

The 40th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon in Orange County is set to recognize the exceptional contributions of local philanthropists, businesses, and groups, underscoring the profound impact of generosity on the community. Scheduled for November 13 at the Grove of Anaheim, this year's event, themed 'Celebrating 40 Years of Generosity and Impact,' continues the tradition of honoring those who have made significant differences in the lives of others.

Conceived by Orange County businessman and philanthropist Douglas Freeman, National Philanthropy Day has grown from a local observance to a global celebration, with over 140 Association of Fundraising Professionals chapters participating worldwide. Freeman's vision of recognizing and encouraging philanthropic efforts has indeed come to fruition, as evidenced by the widespread adoption of this day of honor.

This year's honorees, selected from more than 65 nominations, represent the diverse and impactful ways philanthropy manifests in Orange County. Among them, the Samueli Foundation receives the Special 40th Anniversary Legacy of Giving Award for its billion-dollar contributions to community improvement initiatives. Benjamin and Carmela Du are recognized as Outstanding Philanthropists for their half-century of support for healthcare, education, and the arts. The Automobile Club of Southern California is honored as Outstanding Large Business for its commitment to community service and employee volunteerism.

Other notable honorees include Doing Good Works, named Outstanding Small Business for its innovative approach to supporting foster care youth, and Dawn Reese, CFRE, CEO of The Wooden Floor, who is celebrated as Outstanding Nonprofit Leader for her transformative leadership. Alisa Abecassis is acknowledged as Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser for her dedication to raising funds for youth in foster care, while the Women's Circle of Wishes is recognized as Outstanding Philanthropic Group for its efforts in granting wishes to critically ill children. Rose Chhabria, a high school senior, is honored as Outstanding Youth for her leadership and community service.
