The art world is set to witness a remarkable event as 43 unseen works by the late Pacific Northwest artist R. Allen Jensen are unveiled in a landmark exhibition. Scheduled for August 9th and 10th, 2025, at Blackwall Studios and Jensen's home in Stanwood, WA, this exhibition promises to be a profound meditation on life's most inevitable certainty: death. Jensen's work, known for its bold exploration of this theme, invites viewers to confront their final passage with a blend of fearless inquiry and exquisite craftsmanship.
In an era marked by global pandemics, natural and man-made disasters, and the loss of an entire generation, Jensen's art resonates deeply. His approach to death, not as a shadow to flee but as a companion to walk beside, offers a unique perspective on how to live fully despite the inevitability of letting go. The exhibition not only celebrates Jensen's artistic legacy but also serves as a fundraiser, with 50% of the proceeds going to The R. Allen Jensen Foundation, which supports students and artists by providing them with work spaces to create.
Curated by Susanna Z Mantis, Jensen's widow, the exhibition will be held at 5815 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood, WA. Family members will be present to share personal stories of Jensen, adding a deeply personal dimension to the event. This exhibition is not just an opportunity to experience Jensen's unseen works but also a chance to reflect on the universal questions of life and death that his art so compellingly addresses.
