Mental Health Abuse Awareness Raised Through Psychiatry Exhibit in Florida

The Psychiatry: An Industry of Death traveling exhibit recently educated Floridians about mental health abuses during its display at the Oviedo Mall in Orlando. This global exhibition reaches tens of thousands annually, highlighting human rights violations including electroshock treatment, involuntary examinations, and the dangerous drugging of children with psychiatric medications. The exhibit originates from the permanent museum at CCHR's international headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

Hosted by the Florida chapter of CCHR, an award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to exposing mental health industry abuses, the event attracted diverse attendees including human rights advocates, students, psychiatric facility employees, professionals, veterans, and teachers. Many visitors reported witnessing firsthand the abuses depicted in the exhibit and pledged to collaborate with CCHR to prevent similar mental health violations throughout Florida.

The exhibit's impact was profound, with one retired psychiatric hospital employee becoming emotionally overwhelmed after her tour. She recounted how a doctor once warned her that continued work in the psychiatric hospital might lead to her becoming a patient herself. A veteran attendee criticized psychiatry for degrading patient rights and blamed television advertisements promoting psychiatric drugs for contributing to societal degradation.

Featured speakers included youth advocate Issac "Coach Boom" Vasquez, who addressed the over-medication of children and emphasized the importance of understanding mental health rights. Congressional candidate Tuan Le, an electrical engineer, spoke about his commitment to human rights advocacy and combating racism and mistreatment within the mental health industry.

Florida maintains a permanent installation of this exhibit at the CCHR center in downtown Clearwater, unveiled in July 2015. This museum presents psychiatry's unvarnished history alongside contemporary information about the field's current state. Fourteen audiovisual displays reveal psychiatric abuses through interviews with more than 160 doctors, attorneys, educators, and survivors, exposing what the organization describes as a multi-billion dollar fraud.

Over 10,000 visitors have toured the Florida museum, including nursing school and technical college students from across the state who incorporate the two-hour self-guided tour into their clinical training. The experience is widely regarded as informative and eye-opening. CCHR complements museum tours with seminars and workshops conducted by attorneys and healthcare professionals focusing on mental health law, particularly the Baker Act. These educational efforts aim to inform lawmakers, doctors, and private citizens about mental health abuses and their legal rights. The museum operates Monday through Friday from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM and weekends from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with weekly and monthly events, all free to the public.
