A significant religious development has occurred in Ethiopia as 84 churches across 10 cities have officially changed their church signboard names to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony. This formal transition represents a substantial shift within the Ethiopian Christian community, with participating pastors declaring their membership in the international religious organization.
The signboard changing ceremony was hosted by Shincheonji Church's Peter Tribe on September 10th, where all 84 pastors publicly affirmed their new affiliation. During the ceremony, the pastors collectively declared their commitment to spreading the teachings they have embraced. They stated, "We have become members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, having mastered the word of the New Covenant Revelation. We resolve to preach this word throughout Ethiopia, so that both pastors and believers alike may follow only the truth and devote themselves more fervently to the ministry of the word."
The movement toward this unification began when Ethiopian Pastor Asefa Angeto participated in the "2nd Global Invitation Revelation Seminar" held in November 2024 at the Shincheonji Cheongju Church in South Korea. After returning to Ethiopia, Pastor Asefa continued leading local seminars based on the theological education he received overseas. His efforts expanded significantly as he traveled to more than 100 churches across 10 Ethiopian cities, conducting seminars and testifying about the revealed word he had learned from Shincheonji Church of Jesus.
A representative from Shincheonji Church's Peter Tribe provided context for the broader implications of this development, stating, "Currently, 181 pastors in Ethiopia are learning the revealed word from Shincheonji Church of Jesus. We will continue to make known the fact that the prophecies of Revelation have been fulfilled today, and we will do our utmost so that churches around the world may become united through the word." This statement underscores the organization's global unification objectives and theological perspective on biblical prophecy.
The signboard changes are being viewed as a breakthrough within the Ethiopian Christian community, potentially influencing religious education, church governance, and inter-denominational relationships throughout the country. The scale of this transition—affecting 84 churches across multiple cities—suggests a coordinated effort that may have lasting impacts on religious practice and theological education in Ethiopia. The development reflects growing international connections between religious communities and the influence of global theological education movements on local church practices.
