Opawica Exploration Announces Conceptual Gold Target on Cadillac-Larder Lake Break
TL;DR
Opawica Explorations' Bazooka Property offers potential gold discovery advantages near major producers like Yamana Gold and Agnico Eagle Mines in the prolific Cadillac-Larder Lake Break.
Opawica is exploring a conceptual target of 10-40 million tonnes grading 0.9-1.45 g/t gold based on 210 drill holes and geological analysis of quartz-carbonate-sericite schists.
Successful gold exploration at Bazooka could create economic opportunities and support sustainable resource development in Quebec's Abitibi region for future generations.
Drill intercepts revealed spectacular gold grades including 77.18 g/t over 5.79 meters with visible gold in sulphide-bearing quartz veins at the Main Zone.
Opawica Explorations Inc. has announced a conceptual exploration target at its Bazooka Property located along the Cadillac-Larder Lake Break, one of the world's most significant gold-bearing structures. The company is exploring for a target ranging from 10 to 40 million tonnes grading between 0.9 to 1.45 grams per tonne gold, based on current geological understanding and historical drilling data.
The Bazooka Property's strategic positioning adjacent to Yamana Gold's Wasamac Project and within a district actively explored by major producers including Agnico Eagle Mines enhances its significance in the mining industry. This region continues to demonstrate substantial potential for high-grade gold discoveries, with the conceptual target representing a potentially significant gold endowment if further exploration confirms the initial findings.
The exploration target is supported by 210 drill holes totaling 51,219 meters, with mineralization hosted within a 60-meter-wide zone of quartz-carbonate-sericite and talc-chlorite schists known as the Main Zone. This mineralization is spatially associated with a strongly graphitic fault marking the contact between sedimentary and ultramafic metavolcanic rocks. The Cadillac-Larder Lake Break at Bazooka is characterized by a 20-60 meter-wide deformation corridor with intense alteration including carbonate, silica, fuchsite, and tourmaline.
Historical drilling results from the property reveal several high-grade intercepts that confirm the presence of significant gold mineralization. These include 77.18 g/t over 5.79 meters in Hole BA5, 25.77 g/t over 7.5 meters in Hole BZ81-3, and 11.46 g/t over 11.20 meters in Hole BRT-11-04. Additional intercepts of 5.0 g/t over 3.2 meters and 9.08 g/t over 2.11 meters further substantiate the property's potential. These results confirm the presence of sulphide-bearing quartz veins with visible gold hosted within the most intensely altered zones of the Main Zone.
The Abitibi greenstone belt, where the property is located, represents the largest Archean greenstone belt in the world and includes significant endowments of silver, copper, zinc, and lesser quantities of lithium, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, and molybdenum. The Val d'Or/Rouyn-Noranda camp within this belt ranks as the second richest gold mining district in the Abitibi region, adding further context to the Bazooka Property's potential significance.
It is important to note that the potential quantity and grade of this exploration target remain conceptual in nature. There has not been sufficient drilling to define a mineral resource, and the current drill spacing is too limited to classify any portion of the target as an Inferred Mineral Resource. There is no certainty that further exploration will result in the delineation of a mineral resource, as emphasized in the company's technical disclosures available through regulatory filings at https://www.sedarplus.com.
The announcement represents an important development in gold exploration within one of Canada's most established mining districts. For investors and industry observers, the conceptual target provides insight into the scale of potential mineralization that could be developed through additional exploration work. The proximity to established mining operations and the historical high-grade intercepts suggest the property warrants continued attention as exploration advances.
