Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Recognize 74 Young Leaders for Community Impact Through Silver Award Projects

The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida celebrated the achievements of 74 Girl Scouts who earned the prestigious Silver Award during the 7th Annual Silver Award Showcase. The Silver Award represents the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette in grades six through eight can achieve, recognizing leadership, innovation and community impact. Each recipient identified a local issue, developed a sustainable solution and dedicated significant time and creativity to creating meaningful changes in their communities.

Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, emphasized the significance of these achievements, stating that these compassionate young leaders tackled complex issues with courage, determination and creativity that can spark real change. Their projects demonstrate that girls are not waiting for the future but are actively creating it through their actions and initiatives.

The Class of 2025 Silver Award recipients collectively contributed 4,100 service hours through 35 distinct projects conducted in partnership with dozens of nonprofit organizations, schools, animal rescues, beaches and municipalities. This substantial community investment reflects the organization's commitment to developing young leaders who understand the importance of civic engagement and social responsibility.

The projects addressed a wide spectrum of community needs, including mental health awareness, self-defense education, food insecurity, environmental sustainability, care for aging populations and honoring veterans. This diversity of focus areas demonstrates the comprehensive understanding these young leaders have developed about the multifaceted challenges facing their communities and their ability to develop targeted solutions.

This recognition comes following the organization's 2024 release of the State of the Florida Girl Report, commissioned by the Girl Scouts of Florida Association. The report represented a groundbreaking assessment of the unique challenges facing girls across the state, bringing to light startling realities about circumstances impacting the daily wellbeing of Florida girls. The programming at Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida is specifically designed to address these identified issues effectively while providing a safe and supportive environment for every girl.

The organization serves 6,100 girls and engages 3,600 volunteers across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. Through unique, impactful experiences, girls from kindergarten through 12th grade are empowered to become confident, capable and compassionate leaders who engage their communities, inspire lasting change and make positive differences in the world.
