Boerne, Texas, has been named a finalist in Hallmark Channel's 2026 Merriest Christmas Town contest, selected as one of 25 communities nationwide and the only representative from Texas. The announcement underscores the town's reputation for holiday charm and community spirit, which residents and visitors have long celebrated. Voting is now open through Friday, September 4, with participants allowed to cast one vote per day for Boerne.
The recognition shines a spotlight on Boerne's holiday offerings, which center on its historic Hill Country Mile. During the Christmas season, the area transforms into a scene reminiscent of a Christmas movie, complete with small-town ambiance and festive events. Mayor Frank Ritchie emphasized the role of the community in this achievement: "At the center of the celebration are the people who are part of our wonderful community. That sense of community is what has helped Boerne build a reputation as a Texas Hill Country destination throughout the holiday season."
Among Boerne's signature traditions is Dickens on Main, which kicks off the holiday season during Thanksgiving weekend. The event brings the Hill Country Mile to life with live entertainment, holiday activities, and Victorian-inspired characters and decorations. The festivities continue with Weihnachts Weekend, the annual nighttime Weihnachts Parade, and Kinder Fest, along with holiday markets and shopping events throughout December.
Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist Tori Bellos highlighted the collaborative nature of the celebrations: "What makes Christmas in Boerne so special is that it's truly a community effort. Our role is to help visitors discover everything that makes Boerne unique while making sure our local businesses have the information and resources they need to welcome them."
The contest recognition goes beyond lights and events, reflecting the deeper community involvement that defines Boerne's holiday season. Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Blohm noted, "It is no mystery, a key component of the community's Christmas celebration is the local businesses, volunteers, organizations and residents who help bring the season to life each year. Our small business owners welcome visitors, neighbors share longtime traditions and families gather along the Hill Country Mile to create the kind of personal, small-town Christmas experience that has become synonymous with Boerne."
Boerne's approach to Christmas is not about being the biggest destination, but about embracing what makes the town special year-round: its historic Hill Country Mile, locally owned businesses, the scenic Texas Hill Country, and a welcoming spirit that makes visitors feel like part of the community. This philosophy has helped Boerne become a premier weekend getaway, located just 30 miles northwest of San Antonio along Interstate 10. The town is known for its charming shops, galleries, and fine dining, all set against the natural beauty of rolling limestone hills, spring-fed creeks, and towering cypress trees.
Winning the Merriest Christmas Town title could bring significant attention to Boerne, potentially boosting tourism and local business during the holiday season and beyond. As voting continues, the community's collective effort and festive traditions will be showcased on a national stage, reinforcing Boerne's status as a top Christmas destination in Texas.
