Centenario Gold Corp. (TSXV: CTG) has completed the first phase of exploration at its Los Reyes Project, a copper and gold asset located near Chihuahua City, Mexico, reporting high-grade copper mineralization encountered during underground sampling of historic mine workings. The project, situated along Highway 49 some 225 km south of Chihuahua, covers two mineral claims: El Rey (36.0 hectares) and El Rey 2 (9.3 hectares), where old mining tunnels built by ASARCO in the late 1800s to early 1900s extracted approximately 200,000 tons of Cu-Zn-Ag material.
The first-phase program included geological reconnaissance and collection of 58 rock samples from surface outcrops, waste dumps, shallow pits, and underground workings at the Tuesda and Jibosa mines. Sampling targeted the intrusive-limestone contact zone where copper-rich skarn mineralization occurs. At El Rey, the skarn zone extends sporadically for more than 800 meters along a north-south trending granodiorite-limestone contact, with surface alteration up to 120 meters wide. Mineralization includes chalcopyrite, bornite, malachite, azurite, and chalcocite within irregular semi-tabular lenses up to 60 meters wide. Some zones previously mined by ASARCO exceeded 125 meters in length.
Underground sampling at the Tuesda shaft identified a mineralized zone up to 20 meters thick, while at the Jibosa mine, the mineralized body reached up to 15 meters thick. Higher sulfide content is anticipated further north of the Tuesda Shaft, with magnetite and specularite fragments in old dumps suggesting Cu-Au skarn-type mineralization. The company noted that no modern systematic sampling had been conducted on the underground portion of the project prior to this program.
All 58 samples have been sent to ALS Chemex Laboratories in Chihuahua for analysis, with results expected by mid-June. The assays will provide valuable geochemical information to better understand mineralization controls and extensions. This phase will lead to a planned 1,500-meter drill program in July, targeting strike and down-dip extensions below 50 meters of the Cu-rich skarn zones identified near the Jibosa and Tuesda shafts.
Derrick Strickland, an independent Qualified Person under NI 43-101, has reviewed and approved the technical disclosure. Centenario Gold Corp., based in Vancouver, Canada, is focused on acquiring and developing high-potential mineral projects in the Americas, with a primary emphasis on gold, copper, and silver. The company is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange and continues to evaluate expansion opportunities in Mexico and Canada. For more information, visit www.centenariogold.com.
The completion of this exploration program marks a significant step toward defining the resource potential at Los Reyes, with implications for the regional copper-gold skarn district. The upcoming drill program will test deeper extensions of high-grade zones, which could enhance the project's economic viability and attract further investment in the area.
