Greenland Mines Closes Sarfartoq Rare Earths Acquisition, Advances Project Toward Pre-Feasibility

Greenland Mines Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRML) announced on Sept. 1, 2026, the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Nd-Pr Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland. The transaction, valued at $20 million in cash and $15 million in securities, marks a significant step for the company as it advances the project toward a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS).

The Sarfartoq project is designed to produce neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) oxide, a critical component in permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other clean energy technologies. According to the company, planned annual NdPr oxide production from Sarfartoq is expected to represent approximately 34% of all NdPr oxide refined outside China at 2025 consumption levels during each of the project's nine scheduled operating years. This underscores the project's potential to play a pivotal role in diversifying the global rare earth supply chain, which is currently dominated by China.

An independent Initial Assessment, based solely on the ST1 deposit, estimates a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion and a pre-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, including Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources. These figures highlight the economic viability of the project and its potential to generate substantial returns for shareholders.

With the acquisition complete, Greenland Mines plans to initiate a series of activities to advance Sarfartoq toward a PFS. These include targeted infill drilling, pilot-scale metallurgical test work, mine engineering planning, environmental and social baseline studies, and drone-based magnetic surveys. The company aims to de-risk the project and establish a robust technical foundation for future development.

In connection with the transaction, Neo Performance Materials (TSX: NEO) has become a strategic shareholder in Greenland Mines. Neo retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production for processing at its Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia. This partnership ensures a dedicated processing pathway for Sarfartoq's output, reinforcing the project's integration into Western supply chains.

The acquisition aligns with Greenland Mines' broader strategy of building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities. The company also advances its North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision, which aims to link Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure.

The completion of the Sarfartoq acquisition comes at a time when global demand for rare earth elements is surging, driven by the transition to green energy and the push for supply chain resilience. By securing a project with substantial NdPr production potential, Greenland Mines positions itself to contribute to the diversification of rare earth sources outside China, which is a key priority for many governments and industries.

The company's focus on advancing Sarfartoq toward a PFS indicates a commitment to moving the project forward in a timely manner. The planned studies and surveys will provide critical data to support the feasibility assessment and ultimately guide investment decisions. As the project progresses, it could become a significant supplier of NdPr oxide, helping to meet the growing demand for permanent magnets in clean energy technologies.
