McEwen Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) has announced the planned retirement of its Chief Operating Officer, William Shaver, after a distinguished career spanning more than 55 years in the mining industry, including the last four years with the company. Shaver will continue to serve on the board of McEwen Copper, a subsidiary in which McEwen holds a 46.3% ownership stake. This transition comes as McEwen positions itself for significant growth, aiming to achieve an annual production target of 250,000 to 300,000 gold equivalent ounces by 2030.
To ensure continuity and strengthen its operational leadership, McEwen has promoted three key executives. Channa Kumarage has been named Vice President of Operations, Kevin Bromfield as Vice President of Development Projects, and Zahir Jina as Vice President of Permitting, Government Relations and Sustainability. These appointments underscore the company's focus on enhancing production, advancing mine construction, and securing necessary permits, all critical elements for achieving its long-term objectives.
William Shaver's departure marks the end of an era for McEwen, but his legacy will endure through his ongoing board role at McEwen Copper. The company expressed gratitude for his contributions and noted that his expertise will remain valuable as they develop the Los Azules copper project, which is designed to be one of the world's first regenerative copper mines, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2038. The project's feasibility study results were released on October 7, 2025, and McEwen's 46.3% interest in McEwen Copper has an implied value of US$456 million (US$7.67 per share) based on the most recent financing.
McEwen's portfolio includes gold and silver mines in prolific regions such as the Cortez Trend in Nevada, the Timmins district in Ontario, Flin Flon in Manitoba, and the Deseado Massif in Santa Cruz, Argentina. The company is also reactivating its gold-silver El Gallo Mine in Mexico. Additionally, McEwen recently acquired a 27.3% stake in Paragon Advanced Labs Inc., a newly listed company deploying PhotonAssay technology, which McEwen believes could become the new industry standard for assaying precious and base metals.
The leadership changes come at a pivotal time as McEwen strives to meet its production goals. The new vice presidents bring a wealth of experience, and their appointments reflect a strategic alignment with the company's priorities. “We are fortunate to have such a talented team to step into these roles,” said a company spokesperson. “Their leadership will be instrumental in driving our projects forward.”
Chairman and Chief Owner Rob McEwen has invested over US$250 million personally and takes a salary of $1 per year, aligning his interests with shareholders. His track record includes building Goldcorp Inc. and implementing a dividend policy. He aims to replicate that success at McEwen, focusing on profitability and share value enhancement.
