Nordex Group to Supply 82 MW for Citizen Wind Projects in Lower Saxony

The Nordex Group has secured orders from EFG Energy Farming Group for the supply and installation of twelve wind turbines across several citizen wind projects in Lower Saxony, Germany. The projects, named “Erlte-Endel” and “Bad Essen,” will have a combined installed capacity of approximately 82 MW. Each contract includes a 20-year Premium Service agreement, ensuring long-term operational support.

For the “Erlte-Endel” wind farm, located in the district of Vechta, Nordex will deliver five N175/6.X turbines mounted on hybrid towers with a hub height of 179 meters. The “Bad Essen” project cluster in the district of Osnabrück will consist of seven turbines: five N175/6.X turbines on 179-meter towers and two N163/6.X turbines with a hub height of 164 meters. This cluster comprises four individual projects: Langewiesen-Nord, Langewiesen-Süd, Rabber Wiesen, and the Wimmerbruch repowering project.

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026, with turbine installation planned for 2027 and commissioning expected in spring 2028. The wind farms, developed by EFG Energy Farming Group, will be operated by landowners and regional citizen wind companies, emphasizing local ownership and community involvement.

Reiner Borgmeyer, Managing Director of EFG Energy-Farming Holding GmbH, highlighted the collaborative nature of the projects: “With the wind farms in Erlte-Endel and Bad Essen, we are implementing two projects together with Nordex that demonstrate how wind energy use and regional value creation can go hand in hand. Landowners and community energy companies have been involved from the outset, ensuring that the energy transition remains firmly anchored locally.”

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe of the Nordex Group, added: “These two projects are exemplary of the successful combination of regional commitment and modern wind energy technology. Together with our long-standing customer, the EFG Energy Farming Group, we are creating wind farms that not only make an important contribution to the energy transition, but also enable reliable and sustainable electricity generation for many years to come thanks to their high efficiency.”

The EFG Energy Farming Group, based in Bad Essen, has extensive experience in developing, planning, and implementing wind energy projects in Germany, from site development and permitting through to implementation. The Nordex Group, with a track record of over 64 GW of installed wind power capacity in more than 40 markets since 1985, continues to expand its presence in the onshore wind sector, focusing on turbines in the 4 to 7 MW+ classes. The company’s global service network ensures smooth operation of its turbines, and it is listed on the MDAX and TecDAX of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

These projects underscore the growing trend of community-owned renewable energy in Germany, supported by advanced turbine technology. By involving local stakeholders, the initiatives aim to foster regional economic benefits while contributing to the country’s energy transition goals. The successful implementation of these wind farms will provide reliable, sustainable electricity for decades, demonstrating a model for future collaborations between developers and local communities.
