On June 28, 2026, the roar of motorcycles carried a message of peace through South Central Los Angeles as members of the Peace Rides gathered for their monthly ride, marking 14 years of promoting nonviolence and supporting families affected by violence. The group, which assembles at a local Park & Ride and concludes at Athens Park, aims to demonstrate that communities can unite in healing rather than retaliation.
Among the participants was a 70-year-old professional wedding photographer attending his first Peace Ride. His life was changed by the tragic loss of his 32-year-old grandson, who was fatally shot after an argument. The grandfather, instead of seeking revenge, chose to honor his grandson's memory by joining a motorcycle group that participates in the Peace Rides, hoping his example can prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedy. He was presented a copy of The Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to better living, and accepted it with gratitude, taking additional copies to share with others to spread a message of peace, compassion, and personal responsibility in his community.
For the past 14 years, the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has donated The Way to Happiness booklets to the Peace Rides events. The booklet, written by L. Ron Hubbard, Humanitarian and Founder of the Scientology Religion, states, "Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities" and "And that is my wish for you: flourish and prosper!" The Scientology religion, founded by author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard, has expanded to more than 11,000 Churches, Missions, and affiliated groups, with millions of members in 167 countries.
This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to address violence in communities through grassroots action and the distribution of materials promoting personal responsibility and peace. The impact of such rides extends beyond the participants, as they serve as a visible reminder that communities can choose healing over retaliation. The grandfather's decision to join the Peace Rides underscores the potential for transforming grief into constructive action, offering a model for others affected by violence. By sharing The Way to Happiness, participants aim to encourage reflection and positive behavior change, potentially reducing the cycle of violence.
The Peace Rides continue to demonstrate the power of collective action in fostering safer neighborhoods. For more information about the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International and its community initiatives, visit their website at https://www.scientology.cc.
