Picky Global, the South Korean company behind PICKYPIC compact photobooths, has launched Receipt Photobooth on Kickstarter. The device, standing about 12 inches tall, prints black-and-white images on ordinary thermal receipt paper in approximately one second. This launch marks the company's expansion from its existing network of over 200 operating locations into a new ultra-compact format designed for spaces where traditional floor-standing booths cannot fit, such as cafés, retail stores, pop-up shops, and event venues.
Unlike conventional photobooths that require dedicated floor space and dye-sublimation ink, Receipt Photobooth sits on a countertop, shelf, or table and uses commonly available thermal receipt paper. A single roll produces approximately 500 prints, and the system requires no ink cartridges. Each print also includes a QR code that guests can scan to download the original full-color digital image directly to their smartphone, combining a physical keepsake with a digital file ready to save or share.
The company is not new to the photobooth market. Picky Global has been designing, manufacturing, and operating photobooths in South Korea for three years, with more than 200 PICKYPIC booths currently operating across cafés, retail stores, bars, and event spaces nationwide. It has also exported its photobooth products to 11 international markets, including the United States, Canada, France, Denmark, Luxembourg, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Qatar, and Kuwait. Receipt Photobooth was developed on top of that operating experience, with the company redesigning the internal structure, power system, and software for a compact format and international use.
Beyond hardware, Receipt Photobooth includes software features built for brands, retailers, and event operators. The system ships with 20 default frame templates and supports custom frames featuring a brand's logo, artwork, or event design. Operators can add printed messages such as daily fortunes, promotions, or event copy, and guests can personalize their photos with simple drawings or stickers after shooting. An optional survey can be added to the shooting flow, giving businesses a simple way to collect customer feedback and engagement data. Together, these features make the booth a customer engagement tool rather than just a camera and a printer.
Receipt Photobooth comes in two models. The acrylic Urban model measures 190 × 230 × 316 mm (7.5 × 9 × 12.4 inches) and is available in five colors. The wooden Modern model measures 290 × 290 × 310 mm (11.4 × 11.4 × 12.2 inches). Both weigh approximately 5 kg (11 lbs). Setup requires only a power outlet and Wi-Fi connection, without the complex installation typically associated with floor-standing photobooths. Its compact footprint allows it to function as part of the interior rather than requiring a dedicated photo booth area.
Young Roung Lee, CEO of Picky Global, explained the motivation behind the product: "Traditional photobooths require businesses to dedicate a significant amount of floor space to the experience. We wanted to create something that could turn a small, previously unused space into a photo experience — whether that's a café counter, a retail shelf, a pop-up store, or an event table."
The global Kickstarter campaign for Receipt Photobooth launched September 22, 2026, at 9 AM ET. The campaign features both the acrylic Urban model and the wooden Modern model, with limited Launch Day rewards available to early backers. For small businesses and event organizers, the launch represents a new option to add a photo experience without sacrificing valuable floor space. The use of thermal receipt paper, which is widely available and inexpensive, could lower ongoing supply costs compared to dye-sublimation systems. The QR code download feature bridges physical and digital engagement, potentially increasing social media sharing and customer interaction. With its compact size and simple setup, Receipt Photobooth may also appeal to international markets where space is at a premium, further extending Picky Global's reach beyond its current 11 export markets.
