Quantum BioPharma Wins FDA Clearance for Phase 2 Trial of Lucid-MS in Multiple Sclerosis

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM), a biopharmaceutical company developing therapies for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of its Investigational New Drug application for Lucid-MS, its lead candidate for multiple sclerosis. The clearance allows the company to proceed with Phase 2 clinical testing of the drug, which is designed to protect nerve cells by inhibiting PAD2, an enzyme linked to myelin damage. This mechanism differs from most existing MS therapies, which primarily target the immune system.

The planned Phase 2 study will be randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled, evaluating the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Lucid-MS in patients with MS. Researchers will assess clinical symptoms and changes visible through brain imaging. The compound previously completed Phase 1 trials in healthy volunteers, where the company reported a favorable safety profile and good tolerability. Quantum BioPharma’s wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., is focused on the research and development of Lucid-MS, a patented new chemical entity shown in preclinical models to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis.

The FDA clearance represents a significant milestone for Quantum BioPharma and could offer a new therapeutic approach for MS patients if later-stage trials confirm the drug’s potential. Unlike immune-modulating treatments, Lucid-MS aims to directly protect myelin, which may complement or provide an alternative to current standards of care. The global MS market is substantial, and a disease-modifying therapy with a novel mechanism could capture meaningful share if approved. For investors, the news de-risks the company’s lead program and may attract interest from partners or acquirers. Quantum BioPharma trades on NASDAQ under the ticker QNTM, and the latest updates are available in the company’s newsroom at https://ibn.fm/QNTM.

Beyond Lucid-MS, Quantum BioPharma retains a 19.48% ownership stake (as of June 30, 2026) in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., which sells an over-the-counter version of UNBUZZD(TM), a product invented by Quantum. The agreement includes royalty payments of 7% of sales until cumulative payments reach $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum also retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
