RHON-KLINIKUM AG has reported a stable business performance for the first half of 2026, with consolidated revenue reaching EUR 863.6 million, slightly up from EUR 833.5 million in the same period last year. The company's EBITDA improved to EUR 57.0 million from EUR 46.7 million, and consolidated profit rose to EUR 22.5 million compared to EUR 14.7 million in H1 2025. The results were significantly impacted by immediate transformation costs established until November 2026 to offset higher personnel and material costs from previous years.
Patient numbers increased by 9% to 513,700 treated on an outpatient and inpatient basis across the group's hospitals and medical care centers, up from 471,295 in the prior year. This growth reflects the company's ongoing commitment to expanding and improving regional healthcare provision. Investments in state-of-the-art medical technology are planned at all sites for 2026, alongside further expansion of medical and therapeutic care offerings and the establishment of regional cooperation networks.
In Hesse, Universitatsklinikum Marburg and the pulmonary clinic Lungenfachklinik Immenhausen have formed a strategic partnership to enhance the care of lung patients. In Brandenburg, the newly opened child protection emergency service at the RHON-KLINIKUM Frankfurt (Oder) site strengthens the regional network. Cooperation agreements with the City of Frankfurt (Oder) and the District of Oder-Spree ensure inter-institutional collaboration to provide fast and effective help for affected children and adolescents.
Dr. Gunther K. WeiB, member of the Board of Management, emphasized the importance of regional networks: “Regional networks form a vital and essential part of any future healthcare system. Rigid sectoral boundaries make it more difficult to provide patients with the care they need and saddle our healthcare system with unnecessary costs. It is only when general practitioners, specialists, medical facilities, nurses and therapists work together as a team that we can pool our resources efficiently. In the face of mounting pressures, such collaboration across providers is the only way to ensure comprehensive and high-quality care to patients, especially in rural areas.”
However, the company also faces challenges from recent legislative changes. Dr. Stefan Stranz, member of the Board of Management, expressed concerns: “The Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Rate Stabilization Act imposes further burdens on hospitals. Instead of reducing bureaucracy and refocusing on patient care, the reform saddles already overburdened hospitals with even more documentation requirements, excessive budget cuts, and financial risks.”
For the full year 2026, RHON-KLINIKUM AG expects revenues of EUR 1.7 billion within a range of plus or minus 5%, and EBITDA between EUR 110 million and EUR 125 million. The company also anticipates a moderate improvement in non-financial performance indicators, such as number of cases and cost weights, compared to the previous year.
The financial year will be significantly impacted by the unfolding legislation process, particularly the Hospital Reform Adjustment Act (Krankenhausreformanpassungsgesetz, KHAG) that entered into force on 15 April 2026, and the Statutory Health Insurance (SHI) Contribution Rate Stabilisation Act (GKV-Beitragsstabilisierungsgesetz, GKV-BstabG) adopted by the German Federal Parliament on 10 July 2026. While these reforms aim to enhance quality and efficiency in the healthcare system, they are expected to put hospitals under greater financial pressure in the short term.
The company's forecast is subject to considerable uncertainties, as it is not yet possible to reliably predict the overall impact of ongoing regulatory interference, the implementation of the hospital reform, and further possible adjustments by the legislator. Additionally, global crises and negative economic impacts are leading to higher prices, supply bottlenecks, and general market volatility.
