Trilogy Metals Posts Q3 Net Income, Advances Arctic Project Permitting with 2028 Decision Target

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) reported net income of $0.2 million for its fiscal third quarter ended Aug. 31, 2026, a swing from a net loss of $1.7 million in the same period a year earlier. The improvement was primarily driven by a mark-to-market gain related to a derivative liability, the company said. Trilogy ended the quarter with $31.2 million in cash and $30.3 million in adjusted working capital.

The financial results come as the company advances its Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska. Trilogy holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100 percent of the UKMP. The project area lies within the Ambler Mining District, described as one of the richest and most-prospective known copper-dominant districts in the world, hosting polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization.

Exploration has concentrated on two deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares. A federal and state permitting schedule now targets a Record of Decision for the Arctic Project in September 2028. Additionally, Trilogy anticipates the subsequent closing of a $35.6 million strategic equity investment by the U.S. Department of War.

Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, providing a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy’s stated vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods.

For investors, the quarter’s profitability—though modest and largely attributable to a non-cash derivative gain—combined with a solid cash position, may signal improving financial stability. The permitting timeline and strategic investment underscore the long-term potential of the Arctic Project, which could become a significant domestic source of critical minerals. Copper is essential for electrification, renewable energy and infrastructure, and a new North American supply could reduce reliance on foreign sources. The involvement of the U.S. Department of War highlights the strategic importance of domestic copper and cobalt resources.
