Trilogy Metals Updates on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has provided an update on its previously announced proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million from the U.S. Department of War (DOW). The investment is intended to support exploration and development of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska. The company confirmed that discussions with the DOW remain ongoing, and the letter of intent signed in October 2025 continues to be in effect as both parties advance negotiations.

The funding aims to bolster continued exploration and development activities at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP), which are located in the Ambler Mining District—one of the world's richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization.

Trilogy Metals holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns a 100 percent interest in the UKMP. In December 2019, South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, exercised its option to form a 50/50 joint venture with Trilogy Metals. Exploration efforts have focused on two key deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both situated within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

The proposed investment from the DOW underscores the strategic importance of domestic mineral production, particularly for critical minerals like copper, which are essential for national security and the transition to renewable energy. By supporting exploration and development of these deposits, the investment could help reduce U.S. reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals, bolster supply chain resilience, and contribute to the growth of a domestic mining sector that is vital for infrastructure and technology.

For the mining industry, this investment signals increased government interest in securing a stable supply of minerals crucial for defense and clean energy applications. It may also pave the way for similar public-private partnerships to accelerate mineral exploration and development in the United States. The ongoing discussions between Trilogy Metals and the DOW could set a precedent for how federal entities engage with mining companies to meet national strategic objectives.

The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects have an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, which provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy Metals emphasizes its vision to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods.

As the talks progress, stakeholders will be watching for a final agreement that could provide significant funding to advance the projects, potentially leading to new mining operations that generate economic benefits for the region and the nation. The successful completion of this investment would mark a notable step in aligning federal resources with domestic mineral development initiatives.
