Two New York Spine Institute Surgeons Named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors

Alexandre B. de Moura, MD, and Timothy T. Roberts, MD, both orthopedic spine surgeons at New York Spine Institute, have been named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors, marking the first year they have received this prestigious designation. Only 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are chosen each year as Castle Connolly Top Doctors for their specialties in their regions.

The recognition highlights the surgeons' expertise in treating a broad range of spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, high-grade spondylolisthesis, herniated discs, spinal cord compression, vertebral tumors, and adult spine trauma. New York Spine Institute offers comprehensive on-site diagnostics and treatment options, such as advanced digital imaging, post-operative rehabilitation resources, and coordinated multi-specialty care pathways designed to streamline the patient experience from diagnosis through recovery.

Key procedures performed by Dr. de Moura and Dr. Roberts include Anterior Cervical Discectomy and fusion (ACDF), Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF), Lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF), Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF), pedicle screw fixation, posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion, laminectomy, total disc replacement, and revision surgery.

Dr. de Moura earned his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Temple University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at NYU Medical Center. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine and has authored numerous multi-center clinical trials on lumbar arthrodesis.

Dr. Roberts received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Albany Medical College, and a spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Health and is an expert peer reviewer for publications including Spine and The Spine Journal. Both physicians are board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team. According to Castle Connolly, doctors do not and cannot pay to be selected as a Top Doctor. The selection process evaluates nominees' medical education, training, hospital appointments, and disciplinary histories.

The impact of this recognition extends to patients seeking spine care, as it identifies surgeons who have earned the respect of their peers for clinical excellence. For the medical community, the designation underscores the high standards of care at New York Spine Institute and the contributions of these surgeons to advancing spine surgery through research and education.
