Verizon Eliminates Activation and Upgrade Fees, Launches Simplified Plans in Customer-First Overhaul

Verizon (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) today announced a sweeping set of changes designed to simplify its offerings and eliminate industry-standard fees, marking a significant shift in how the company approaches customer relationships. The initiative, described as a multi-year transformation, includes the removal of activation and upgrade fees for postpaid customers who opt into the new Verizon Loyalty program, the launch of a streamlined plan called Verizon Simplicity, and a combined mobility and home plan called Verizon One.

“We’re fundamentally reshaping Verizon inside and out to put the customer at the center of everything we do. We’re listening, designing for them, and moving faster than we ever have before,” said Dan Schulman, Verizon CEO. “For too long, this industry has burdened people with complex plans, forced upgrades they don’t need, and so-called ‘rewards’ with tons of caveats. We are working to ensure everything that we do is simple, clear and delightful.”

Central to the announcement is the Verizon Loyalty program, which the company says is the only loyalty program for all customers on any plan. By opting in through the My Verizon app, customers can say goodbye to activation and upgrade fees—saving up to $40 per device. Additionally, the program introduces Verizon Dollars, a first-of-its-kind feature that rewards customers with 3% back in Verizon Dollars every month, redeemable for devices, accessories, or up to 5x value from brands including Sephora, Hilton, Marriott, and Starbucks. Another component, Verizon Shine, offers weekly sweepstakes for once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, VIP access to Outside Lands festival, and a New York City food tour with chef Andrew Zimmern.

“Customers reward us with their loyalty every month. Verizon Dollars lets us reward them back, on their terms,” said Alfonso Villanueva, Interim CEO, Verizon Consumer Group and Verizon Chief Transformation Officer. “Not just some customers, on some plans, but for all. Customers earn Dollars every single month just for being with us, and we let them choose how to spend it.”

The new Verizon Simplicity plan, priced at $45 per line with an initial promotional offer of $30 for switchers, eliminates network tiers and gives every customer access to Verizon’s best 5G network, including 5G Ultra Wideband, with no upcharge. The plan includes unlimited data, 10GB of premium mobile hotspot, roaming in Canada and Mexico, and satellite texting. Customers can add home internet starting at $35 per month. For those seeking a combined solution, Verizon One bundles mobility and home services on one bill for $70 per month, taxes and fees included, powered by Verizon’s 5G and fiber networks.

“With Simplicity, we’re democratizing our network at a thoughtful price point that meets our customers’ needs and drives responsible growth,” added Villanueva. The company expects these changes to be accretive to revenue and EBITDA growth and to drive continued churn reduction, with no change to its 2026 financial guidance.

Existing myPlan customers can continue to enjoy their current plans while also taking advantage of the new Verizon Loyalty program. The announcement was accompanied by a marketing campaign featuring the original cast of Austin Powers, including Mike Myers as Dr. Evil, and a Spanish-language campaign reviving the cast of Yo soy Betty, la fea.
