OKLAHOMA CITY – The WUS Volunteer Minister Cavalcade held its Volunteer Minister Opening Event on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Plaza Calle Dos Cinco, drawing community members for a day focused on disaster preparedness, humanitarian service, and cultural celebration. The event aimed to educate the public on how to respond to emergencies while showcasing the ongoing efforts of the Volunteer Ministers, a program established over three decades ago by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.
Emceed by Volunteer Minister Adan Yanes, the event featured a seminar titled "Solutions for a Dangerous Environment," which provided practical information and resources to help individuals and communities better prepare for and respond to challenging situations and disasters. The seminar was held in the Volunteer Minister tent and attracted several attendees interested in learning about disaster preparedness and the organization's humanitarian work.
A highlight of the day was a performance by Ballet Folklórico Xochipilli of Oklahoma City, which entertained the audience with vibrant rhythms, colorful traditional costumes, and dynamic choreography representing Mexico's rich cultural heritage. The performance added a festive and meaningful dimension to the event, fostering a sense of community spirit.
Community participation was emphasized during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where attendees were invited to take part in commemorating the opening event. The invitation was warmly received, with many members of the public joining the celebration.
Reflecting on the event, seminar host Adan Yanes shared a particularly moving moment: "One of the visitors shed tears knowing that the Volunteer Ministers help a lot to those affected by disasters. She didn't know there was an organization that helped so much." This response underscored the impact of the Volunteer Ministers' work and the importance of raising awareness about the assistance available to individuals and communities affected by disasters and emergencies.
The Volunteer Minister Opening Event served as both an educational and community-building occasion, strengthening public awareness of disaster preparedness while highlighting the ongoing commitment of Volunteer Ministers to helping others in times of need. The group has become known for its humanitarian efforts, assisting in disaster zones and collaborating with public service organizations worldwide. Their work is featured in the new feature-length film Operation: Do Something About It on the Scientology Network.
The event's focus on disaster preparedness is particularly relevant given the increasing frequency of natural disasters and emergencies. By providing practical tools and resources, the Volunteer Ministers aim to empower individuals and communities to take proactive steps in safeguarding themselves and others. The emotional response from attendees highlights a gap in awareness about available humanitarian support, making such outreach efforts crucial for community resilience.
