The Living Legends Awards for Service to Humanity will commemorate its 20th anniversary by honoring four remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities. The awards ceremony, scheduled for February 22, will take place at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Takoma Park, Maryland.
Founded in 2006 by Doreen Hines, the awards program has historically recognized over 50 exceptional individuals, including notable figures such as U.S. Congressman John Lewis and Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee. This year's honorees represent diverse fields of social impact, including faith community advocacy, restorative justice, and health equity.
The four 2025 Living Legends are Joseph McCoy, an advocate within the faith community; Jason Holt and Angela Holder, champions of restorative justice; and David R. Williams, a leader in social science and health equity. These individuals embody the foundation's mission to inspire community service and highlight extraordinary personal contributions.
The event offers attendees an opportunity to network with service-oriented professionals and gain insights into impactful community engagement. By showcasing these individuals' stories, the Living Legends Awards aims to motivate ordinary people to create meaningful change in their own communities.
