Manufacturing and fluid transfer systems solutions provider NewAge Industries has announced its commitment to establish science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets. The company will develop near- and long-term emission reduction goals within two years, targeting comprehensive reductions across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
By engaging with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), NewAge plans to validate its emission reduction strategy against rigorous climate science standards. The initiative, a collaboration between prominent environmental organizations including the UN Global Compact and World Resources Institute, ensures companies develop credible decarbonization strategies.
CEO Mary Marcus emphasized the company's sustainability ambitions, stating the commitment represents a critical step in their environmental journey. This initiative builds upon NewAge's existing achievement of attaining Net Zero Scope 2 market-based emissions, signaling a comprehensive approach to reducing the company's carbon footprint.
The commitment is significant for the manufacturing sector, where industrial processes traditionally contribute substantially to global greenhouse gas emissions. By proactively setting science-based targets, NewAge demonstrates leadership in corporate environmental responsibility and potentially serves as a model for other mid-sized manufacturers seeking to reduce their climate impact.
Once submitted, NewAge's targets will undergo independent assessment by SBTi, ensuring they meet stringent criteria for meaningful emissions reduction. The company's approach includes collaborating with suppliers and customers to lower emissions throughout its entire value chain, recognizing that effective climate action requires comprehensive, systemic engagement.
