Divine Mercy University (DMU) has announced the creation of the Bishop Loverde Scholarship Fund, designed to support priests, religious students, and future mental health professionals committed to serving their dioceses and local communities.
The scholarship fund honors Bishop Paul S. Loverde, who served as the third bishop of the Arlington Diocese from 1999 to 2016 and has been a board member of DMU for 25 years. Bishop Loverde is recognized for his advocacy for human life, Catholic education, and religious vocations.
The initiative aims to raise $500,000 by June 30th, 2026, to provide financial support for students who commit to serving in their home dioceses, with a specific focus on the Diocese of Arlington. This scholarship program reflects DMU's mission of integrating psychological education with Catholic principles and addressing growing mental health needs across religious communities.
As a Catholic graduate school of psychology and counseling, DMU offers doctoral and master's degrees in clinical psychology and counseling. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and has specialized accreditations in counseling and psychological programs.
The Bishop Loverde Scholarship Fund represents a strategic investment in developing compassionate, professionally trained mental health professionals and religious leaders who can serve their communities with expertise and spiritual commitment.
