Greek Baritone Konstantinos Stafylides Wins International Voice Competition, Secures Prestigious Opera Role

Greek baritone Konstantinos Stafylides emerged victorious in the International Voice Competition Boris Martinovich, demonstrating exceptional talent and potential in the competitive world of opera. The 21-year-old from Thessaloniki won the Uni/Pre-professional division, impressing a distinguished panel of international judges with his vocal prowess and stage presence.

Competition chairman Boris Martinovich praised Stafylides, noting that he "shadowed all the other competitors" and is a "very talented and promising rising opera star." The victory comes with significant rewards, including a $1,000 USD first prize, the "Best Baritone" title, and a one-year scholarship for vocal and career coaching.

As part of his prize, Stafylides will perform the role of Escamillo in the Clyde Opera Company's production of Carmen in Scotland this summer. This opportunity represents a crucial milestone in his developing career, which already includes notable roles such as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and Marcello in La Bohéme.

Currently studying with American baritone Kim Josephson, Stafylides holds a Classical Singing Diploma from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki and is pursuing an Integrated Master of Composition and Musicology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His participation in prestigious institutions like the Accademia del Belcanto and Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy underscores his commitment to artistic excellence.

The competition featured participants from around the world, with winners representing countries including China, Korea, Russia, the United States, and Romania. Other notable winners received special prizes, including roles and scholarships that highlight the competition's role in nurturing emerging operatic talent.
