Peru will bring its rich cultural heritage to life in the digital realm at the 2025 Universal Exposition in Osaka-Kansai, Japan, through an innovative metaverse experience that allows global audiences to explore the country's historical and contemporary identity.
The virtual pavilion, developed under the theme "Infinite Possibilities," will feature digitally reconstructed artifacts including the Lord of Sicán mask, Paracas textiles, Nasca ceramics, and archaeological pieces from the Caral site. These exhibits have been meticulously captured using photogrammetry technology to create high-precision 3D models accessible worldwide.
Visitors can access the immersive experience through the "Virtual Expo" application, compatible with smartphones, computers, and virtual reality devices like Meta Quest 2 and 3. Users will create personalized avatars and navigate a digital landscape inspired by the real Yumeshima island, interacting with global participants through various communication tools.
This digital representation represents a significant evolution in international exposition methodology, enabling unprecedented global cultural exchange. By leveraging metaverse technology, Peru can transcend geographical limitations, offering unprecedented access to its cultural narrative and national heritage.
The virtual pavilion will remain active throughout the six-month exposition, concluding on October 13, 2025, and provides a novel platform for cross-cultural understanding and technological innovation in cultural presentation.
