The Military Spouse Advocacy Network (MSAN) and the University of Notre Dame have introduced two innovative leadership programs specifically tailored for military spouses, emphasizing professional development and mental wellness.
The new initiatives, developed by faculty from multiple Notre Dame centers, will offer specialized training in ethical leadership and mental health support. These programs are exclusively available to alumni of MSAN's Leadership Institute for Military Spouses (LIMS) Leadership Development Program.
The Leadership in Ethics course will focus on critical skills such as conflict management, workplace communication, and principled decision-making. Participants will learn strategies to become community leaders who can foster resilient and supportive environments.
The mental health course series aims to address unique challenges faced by military families, helping participants identify mental health risks, dispel common misconceptions, and develop essential wellness strategies. The program seeks to equip military spouses with tools to support themselves and their communities during periods of stress.
University President Rev. Robert A. Dowd highlighted the institution's longstanding commitment to supporting military service members and their families. MSAN President Verenice Castillo emphasized the partnership's potential to empower military spouses as community leaders and advocates.
The multidisciplinary project involves collaboration across ten organizational units at Notre Dame, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to supporting military families through education and skills development.
