The American Heart Association, in partnership with the NFL Alumni Association, is launching a campaign during Men’s Health Week, June 9-15, to emphasize the importance of Life’s Essential 8™. These eight key health measures are designed to prevent heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death and disability among men in the U.S. The initiative features former NFL players advocating for each component of Life’s Essential 8, aiming to educate and motivate men to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Life’s Essential 8 includes managing weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, alongside adopting a healthy diet, engaging in physical activity, avoiding tobacco, and ensuring adequate sleep. The campaign leverages the influence of former NFL players to reach a broad audience, including retired athletes and the general public, highlighting the simplicity and effectiveness of these measures in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association, and Brad Edwards, CEO of NFL Alumni, underscore the collaboration's goal to empower individuals to take control of their heart health. By sharing personal stories and actionable advice through social media, the campaign seeks to make a tangible impact on men’s health awareness and practices nationwide.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate health risks faced by men but also contributes to the broader goal of reducing the prevalence of heart disease and stroke. Through education and inspiration, the American Heart Association and NFL Alumni are working to foster a culture of health and wellness that extends beyond Men’s Health Week.
