The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, a vehicle synonymous with 1980s futurism and design, has been added to the collection at the DFW Car & Toy Museum in Fort Worth. This model, famous for its appearance in pop culture and its distinctive stainless-steel body, represents a significant piece of automotive history. With only 13,000 miles on it, the car is a rare find, having been with its original owner until 2016.
Featuring a 2.85-liter V6 engine and a five-speed manual transaxle, the DMC-12 showcases the innovative design of Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign. Its unique features include unpainted stainless-steel panels, a fiberglass underbody, and a Lotus-derived double-Y chassis. The car's exterior is complemented by turbine-style aluminum wheels and a louvered engine cover, while the interior boasts a black leather cabin equipped with modern amenities for its time.
Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum, highlights the DeLorean's significance as a symbol of ambition and design from a bygone era. The museum offers free admission, allowing visitors to experience this piece of automotive history up close. The addition of the DeLorean to the museum's collection not only enriches its offerings but also serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of innovative design and engineering.
