BioUtah, Utah's life sciences trade association, has announced its support as an Investor-level contributor to the newly launched Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC), a national nonprofit aimed at enhancing talent pipelines across the U.S. This partnership reflects BioUtah's dedication to fostering a skilled workforce, essential for Utah's rapidly growing life sciences ecosystem.
The LSWC, which made its debut at the 2025 BIO International Convention in Boston, MA, focuses on driving life sciences workforce development. This initiative aligns with Utah's existing efforts, such as a $4 million workforce program adopted by the state legislature last year to improve life sciences training at local colleges and universities. Additionally, BioUtah's collaboration with lawmakers led to the creation of the Talent Hub program, targeting industry internships and specialized placement programs.
Utah's pro-business environment, recognized as the #1 state for business by U.S. News and World Report for three consecutive years, provides a fertile ground for bioscience companies. Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah, emphasized the importance of a skilled workforce in sustaining the state's life sciences innovation and meeting the increasing demand for biomanufacturing and regulatory expertise.
Recent analyses underscore the demand for life sciences talent in Utah, with the professional, scientific, and technical services sector remaining a key employment driver. The state's low unemployment rates further highlight the need for proactive workforce strategies. By joining the LSWC, BioUtah aims to leverage national insights and best practices to enhance Utah's talent pipeline, ensuring the state remains at the forefront of life sciences innovation.
