Jerry Lewis Transitions from Construction Leadership to Full-Time Ministry Service

Jerry Lewis, a Shelby County native, has transitioned from leading multimillion-dollar construction projects to pursuing full-time ministry work that spans both local communities and international borders. After more than two decades guiding developments ranging from retail centers to luxury estates across Texas, Lewis stepped away from his thriving construction business to focus on what he describes as ministry in everyday life.

Lewis's approach to ministry emphasizes practical application of faith beyond traditional church settings. Ministry doesn't start at 11 a.m. on Sunday, he says. It starts in the parking lot, the jobsite, or the kitchen table. Wherever people are — that's where God shows up. This philosophy has guided his work from helping missionaries build facilities in Mexico to advising community projects in Ghana.

Currently, Lewis is providing pro bono consulting services to a congregation threatened with property loss due to a Texas Department of Transportation project. His expertise in construction and negotiation is helping the church navigate ongoing discussions to secure fair compensation and preserve their ability to continue operations. Sometimes churches just need a voice, Lewis notes. I try to give them one.

Those familiar with Lewis's work describe his ability to blend practical skills with spiritual guidance as particularly valuable for congregations facing both construction challenges and crisis situations. His approach leads them not just through budgets and blueprints, but toward solutions that protect their ministry and community presence.

At home in Center, Texas, Lewis maintains the same intentional approach to family life as he does to his ministry work. As a devoted father of three, he emphasizes that family stability is part of a person's witness, keeping family priorities at the forefront while serving others. Throughout his various roles as builder, mentor, and minister, Lewis maintains that his central mission remains serving faithfully, encouraging others, and reminding people that God is near through both practical assistance and spiritual support.
