SouthernMED Pediatrics has acquired Tri-County Pediatrics, effective December 3, 2025, expanding the pediatric healthcare group's presence in northern South Carolina's Tri-County region. The acquisition includes two office locations in Rock Hill at 165 Amendment Avenue and York at 815 East Liberty Street, areas considered part of the broader Charlotte metropolitan community. This strategic move enhances SouthernMED's operational density alongside its existing Fort Mill office and recently acquired Rock Hill location previously operating as Sunshine Pediatrics.
The integration of Tri-County Pediatrics strengthens SouthernMED's statewide network, enabling expanded access to coordinated pediatric services. According to Dr. R. Kyle Guyton, MD, FAAP, Co-Founder of SouthernMED Pediatrics, the acquisition represents an important step in strengthening pediatric care across northern South Carolina. Dr. Guyton emphasized that by joining forces with Tri-County Pediatrics, SouthernMED can expand resources, elevate clinical support, and improve access for families throughout the Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and York areas.
Tri-County Pediatrics, founded in 2001 by Dr. Gaurang Shah, has established a strong reputation for high-quality children's healthcare and is recognized as a certified Patient-Centered Medical Home. Dr. Shah, who received the Rural Health Physician of the Year Award in 2016, will continue leading patient care across both offices, ensuring continuity and stability for families who have trusted the practice for more than two decades. Both Tri-County offices will maintain their current operating hours, including Saturday morning availability at the Rock Hill location.
Dr. Shah expressed that partnering with SouthernMED allows Tri-County Pediatrics to enhance its mission while maintaining the personalized, relationship-driven care patients value. For more than 20 years, Tri-County Pediatrics has focused on providing exceptional care to families across the community, including those in rural areas. The acquisition enables both practices to leverage SouthernMED's expanded resources and statewide network while preserving the local care relationships Tri-County has developed.
The expanded network facilitates access to coordinated pediatric services including behavioral health integration, telemedicine, online appointment scheduling, and enhanced communication tools. These resources support children and families at every stage of development across the rapidly developing Tri-County region. SouthernMED Pediatrics, as part of US Pediatric Partners, continues its mission to redefine pediatric excellence through a patient-first, team-driven model of care. This acquisition represents a significant development in pediatric healthcare access for northern South Carolina communities, particularly in areas experiencing rapid growth as part of the Charlotte metropolitan expansion. The integration of established local practices with larger healthcare networks creates opportunities for enhanced service delivery while maintaining community-focused care models. For families in the region, the consolidation means expanded access to specialized pediatric resources while preserving trusted local healthcare relationships that have developed over decades of community service.
