The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) has announced that its original documentary, Chatsworth Through Time, will be broadcast on public television stations across the United States in August 2026. The program, distributed by American Public Television (APT), explores the 500-year history of Chatsworth, one of Great Britain's most renowned estates located in the Peak District National Park.

Chatsworth has been the home of the Devonshire family for five centuries, and the documentary delves into the architectural and artistic transformations that have occurred over the generations. Hosted by senior curators, the film begins in the Tudor period and progresses through to the 21st century, culminating in an extended interview with the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The documentary features unparalleled access to the estate's collection of historically significant architecture, fine craftsmanship, and rare artworks accumulated over 17 generations.

ICAA president Peter Lyden expressed the significance of the project, stating, 'It was an honor at the ICAA to work with the Chatsworth House Trust, providing a unique opportunity to thoroughly explore the story of a house rich in architectural and artistic history. By opening the house's archives and hearing directly from the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth Through Time provides unprecedented insight into the legendary estate.'

The broadcast is made possible through partnerships with Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and APT. Connecticut Public, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, serves more than 1.2 million people each week through its television and radio platforms. APT, founded in 1961, is the leading syndicator of high-quality programming to public television stations, distributing nearly half of the top 100 highest-rated public television titles in the U.S.

The documentary is part of the ICAA's ongoing efforts to advance the appreciation of classical and traditional architecture. The organization offers a wide array of programs, including classes, travel, lectures, awards, and conferences, and publishes the academic journal the Classicist and the Classical America Series in Art and Architecture. It also produces the documentary film series Design in Mind and the biweekly content series World of Classicism.

Chatsworth itself is a Grade I listed house and stables, set within a 105-acre garden and a 1,822-acre park. It is home to one of Europe's most significant private art collections and operates as a registered charity under the Chatsworth House Trust. Visitor income funds essential conservation and an ambitious programme of exhibitions, events, learning, and community outreach. The estate also features award-winning hotels, inns, and cottages for visitors, with interiors, food, and drink sourced from Chatsworth and local producers. More information can be found at www.chatsworth.org.

The broadcast of Chatsworth Through Time on public television is expected to bring the estate's rich history and architectural significance to a national audience, highlighting the importance of preserving such cultural landmarks. The ICAA's collaboration with the Chatsworth House Trust underscores the value of educational programming in promoting classical design and heritage.
