Creative Diagnostics, a leading manufacturer and supplier of antibodies, antigens, and assay kits, has announced the launch of its Hantavirus Research Reagents and Products to support hantavirus research and diagnostic assay development. This new catalog is designed to assist academic researchers, biopharmaceutical companies, and industrial organizations in accelerating the development of diagnostic assays and therapeutic interventions targeting rodent-borne orthohantaviruses.
Hantaviruses, classified as Category A pathogens by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are emerging zoonotic pathogens belonging to the Bunyaviridae family. These viruses pose a serious threat to human health, as infection can lead to haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), both of which are highly fatal. Transmission occurs through aerosols containing excreta from infected rodent hosts.
The tripartite negative-strand RNA genome of hantaviruses consists of three genomic RNA segments (S, M, and L) that encode the nucleocapsid protein (N), a precursor glycoprotein (which forms envelope glycoproteins Gn and Gc), and the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). The N protein serves as the primary structural component, protecting and encapsulating the genomic RNA strands to form viral ribonucleocapsids. Recent studies indicate that the N protein acts in concert with RdRp to play a crucial role in viral transcription and replication, and it preferentially promotes the translation of viral mRNA within the cell.
Currently, no antiviral therapies or vaccines are available for hantavirus-associated diseases. A deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the hantavirus life cycle could help identify targets for antiviral therapy and design potential drugs to treat HFRS and HCPS. Given the alarming case-fatality rates, the development of an effective hantavirus vaccine is imperative. Additionally, because early clinical manifestations of hantavirus infection often resemble common seasonal respiratory or influenza-like illnesses, there is an urgent need for highly sensitive and reliable laboratory diagnostic tools to enable early differential diagnosis and accurate target validation.
To address these research challenges, Creative Diagnostics offers a range of hantavirus research reagents and products covering multiple strains, including Hantavirus, Puumala virus (PUUV), Seoul virus (SEOV), and Sin Nombre virus (SNV). The new product line includes recombinant hantavirus antigens for assay development; high-affinity monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies validated for capture and detection across multiple platforms such as Western blot, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and surface plasmon resonance; and supporting reagents for ELISA and rapid immunoassay research.
