Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading producer of rare earth elements, uranium, and other critical materials, has announced the completion of its acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials Limited (ASM). This strategic move bolsters Energy Fuels' ambition to build a fully integrated Western mine-to-magnet supply chain for rare earth permanent magnets, a critical component in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense technologies.
The acquisition adds ASM's operating Korean Metals Plant in South Korea, which currently has 1,300 tonnes per year of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) alloy production capacity and commercial metallization capabilities for neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr). The plant is being expanded to 3,600 tonnes of annual NdFeB alloy capacity, with commissioning expected as early as the end of 2026. This expansion will significantly increase the supply of these essential materials outside of China, which currently dominates global rare earth processing.
In addition to the Korean Metals Plant, the acquisition brings ASM's Dubbo project in Australia, a long-life resource of rare earths and other critical minerals. This project adds to Energy Fuels' diverse portfolio, which includes its White Mesa Mill in Utah, where production and expansion initiatives for NdPr, terbium, and dysprosium oxides are underway. The company also holds heavy mineral sands projects in Brazil, Australia, and Madagascar.
With this transaction, Energy Fuels now spans the entire rare earth supply chain from mining and processing to oxides, metals, and alloys. The company's planned acquisition of permanent magnet manufacturer Vacuumschmelze (VAC) would further extend this platform into magnet production, completing the mine-to-magnet vision. This vertical integration is crucial for securing a reliable Western supply of rare earth permanent magnets, which are vital for national security and the global transition to clean energy.
The completion of this acquisition marks a pivotal moment in the rare earth industry, as Western nations seek to reduce their dependence on Chinese rare earth processing. By bringing these capabilities in-house, Energy Fuels is positioning itself as a key player in the effort to establish a resilient and ethical supply chain for critical materials.
ASM shares have been delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange following the completion of the transaction. Energy Fuels, headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, continues to trade on the NYSE American and TSX under the symbols UUUU and EFR, respectively.
